Our Hallmark Business Connections health and wellness team is lucky to be in a field that is continuously growing. Therefore, we are constantly looking for new and effective health trends to successfully engage employees in wellness programs. I recently wrote an article for Corporate Wellness Magazine about trends shaping health and wellness at the workplace. Below are the five trends discussed in the article:

A recent article from Westfair Online spoke about how corporate wellness programs are gaining popularity; it seems in particular in recent months.

“Past studies have shown that for every dollar invested in worksite health promotion, there is a medical cost savings of $3.48 and an absenteeism cost savings of as much as $5.82,” said registered nurse Ann Marie O’Brien, the Northeast health strategies director of United Healthcare.

We make health and wellness decisions all the time. What should I have to eat? Do I really feel like going to the gym? Should I speak with my manager about my workload or just grin and bear it? Our answers to simple questions like these can have a significant impact on our long-term health. And clearly, there are people answering them wrong as 34% of U.S. adults are obese, nearly 17 million Americans have Type 2 diabetes and one in three adults has high blood pressure.

I was fortunate enough to have a great young woman intern with our Health & Wellness group this summer. Alison quickly became an important member of our team and really seemed to get what we are trying to do here at HBC when it comes to engaging our clients members and employees in their workplace wellness programs. I asked her one day what her thoughts were about wellness programs both at colleges and work. We had a great discussion about adopting healthy behaviors early in life rather than in middle age, like myself. And so as we send her back to the University today for her senior year, we wish her the best and thank her for her insights…
